Today, increasing prevalence of obesity and chronic diseases has significantly increased the demand for new dietary methods in order to provide weight loss or reduce the use of drugs in the treatment of diseases. In order to prevent obesity and other disease complications for many years, many diet types have been on the agenda and different studies have been carried out in these areas. Undoubtedly, the ketogenic diet has been one of the most interesting diet types. The therapeutic effect of this diet, which has a high-fat, adequate protein and very low-carbohydrate profile that mimics the metabolism of fasting in order to stimulate the production of ketone bodies, seems promising in the treatment of many diseases such as diabetes, obesity and cancer, especially epilepsy, according to recent studies. The impact of high fat content on cardiovascular disease and overall risk birds is a matter of debate and, due to its growing popularity, widely and unconsciously raises some concerns about potentially long-term consequences. This review examines the ketogenic diet approach to cardiovascular health and evaluates the available scientific evidence on ketogenic diets.
